Ten Tips for Giving Powerful Presentations

Presenting can be a very effective way to inspire your audience; whether you are pitching to a retailer trying to get them to buy your products or trying to motivate a sales team.

This article contains our top tips for giving powerful presentations that’ll get people thinking about you long after you’ve left the room.

1. Use short words and punchy sentences to help get your message across.

2. Don’t try to sound clever by using elaborate synonyms and long sentences as you’ll probably just end up sending people to sleep.

3. Be concise- keep your message short, sweet and to the point. Research suggests that most people can pay attention for about 1000 seconds before switching off.

4. Customise your slides to help convey and personalise your message.

5. Avoid going for the hard sell as this is likely to alienate people.

6. Avoid using business jargon.

7. Tailor your presentation to meet the needs of your audience. If you do this they are more likely to respond favourably to it.

8. Use your voice to add variety to your presentation- don’t speak in a monotone but do change your pace and use highs and lows to emphasise your points

9. Speak slowly and clearly and try and project your voice so people at the back of the room can hear you easily.

10. Most importantly- smile. If you look like you’re enjoying yourself, chances are that your audience will too!
